History
Staker Parson Companies was formed in 2001 when Staker Paving and Construction Company and Jack B. Parson Companies became partners. The alliance resulted in an organization with over eighty years of collective experience and the ability to serve customers with the broadest range of products across the widest geography of any supplier in the Intermountain Region. Staker Parson Companies is widely recognized as the Preferred Source for quality rock products, ready mix concrete, asphalt, paving and construction services.
Staker Parson Companies' rich history began over fifty years ago. In 1927, a fifteen-year-old boy boarded a train and headed off to help his father build roads. That summer's experience developed into a lifelong passion for Jack B. Parson. After learning to operate every piece of equipment in the fleet, he was promoted to foreman, and gained a wealth of experience in the construction business. In 1952, Jack founded Jack B. Parson Companies in Smithfield, Utah, and the company grew to become one of the largest rock product producers and contractors in the region.
In 1969, Stuart, Val, and Gordon Staker founded Staker Paving and Construction Co. Inc. in Salt Lake City, Utah. From its humble beginning, Staker Paving & Construction grew to become Utah's largest asphalt producer and installer. Staker's Beck Street asphalt plant in Salt Lake City is one of the nation's top-producing asphalt plants, often supplying over one million tons annually.
Over time, Staker Parson Companies extended its service area with the addition of Idaho Sand & Gravel Company, Idaho Concrete Company, and Western Rock Products. This expansion increased the capability to serve customers throughout Southern Idaho, Central and Southern Utah.
In 2003, Staker Parson Companies was honored as the "Best in State" award winner in the Mineral Mining/Stone Quarrying category. The Mountain West Venture Group has repeatedly recognized the company as one of Utah's fastest revenue growth companies.
Employing over 2,000 people, Staker Parson Companies is the Intermountain Region's largest producer of quality rock products, ready mix concrete, asphalt, paving and construction services. The company has received numerous awards for its projects including the Highway 89 Cornia Drive Interchange in South Weber, Utah, I-84 Black Canyon Project near Boise, Idaho, I-70 reconstruction near Green River, the Bear Lake Marina, and the George S. Eccles Legacy Bridge.
Staker Parson Companies supports many organizations including the Red Cross, the Boy Scouts of America, Habitat for Humanity, and Choice Humanitarian. In 2000, the company and its founders pledged $1 million to Weber State University to help found the Parson Construction Management Technology Program. This program was recently expanded to the Salt Lake Community College. The company continues to give of its time and talent to help build the communities it serves.
From the parks you play in to the roads you drive on, you can count on the team at Staker Parson Companies to deliver quality products and projects in a timely, safe, and efficient manner.
