Graniterock, a Watsonville, Calif., operator widely regarded in materials production for its management philosophy and innovative operating practices, is celebrating inclusion on the list of Best Bosses by Fortune Small Business magazine. To compile the list, FSB partnered with Winning Workplaces, a not-for-profit organization in Evanston, Ill. The article on Graniterock begins with a photo collage of many company team members titled "The Rock Stars." The piece continues by saying that Graniterock was the only company submitting an application for the Best Bosses list that did not nominate a CEO or president. Instead, the company team members - all 700 employees - were put to the boss test by making the case that all of them perform their duties as bosses, responsible for decision making and results.
