Local Aggregates Company Recognized as a National "Star"

Ogden, UT –-April 25, 2005-- National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (NSSGA) today announced that Staker and Parson Companies has received the highest level of recognition in two of NSSGA’s award programs. In the About Face Program the company received the highest award, The Showplace award. In the Community Relations Program, the company also received the highest award in this category, The Pinnacle award.

Since the company has received these two top awards they will also receive the National Stars of Excellence Award. NSSGA’s National Stars of Excellence program began in 2001 and is presented to those operations earning two of the highest awards in any of NSSGA’s five award programs. Only 15 companies were recognized with this award.

“There were outstanding entries in all our awards categories,” said NSSGA President and CEO Joy Wilson. “When you look at what Staker and Parson Companies has accomplished in the way of plant improvement, giving back to the communities in which they operate, market innovations and creative use of materials, you realize what a positive contribution they make to America’s daily life, far beyond the economic benefits generated by the industry. This is a great company made up of great people.”

Created in 1975, The About Face Program is NSSGA’s oldest awards program. This nationally acclaimed program recognizes and rewards aggregate producers who have made constructive and positive efforts to enhance the aesthetic appearance of their operations. In 1990, The About Face Program was accorded the highest honor in the U.S. Department of Interior’s Take Pride in America Program.

Staker and Parson Companies won The Showplace Award, the highest honor in the About Face Program for its plant aesthetics. Entrants were judges on entrance and approach, office and scale house, employee areas, other structures, screening, plant appearance, dust control, erosion control and mining area appearance.

“This has truly been an outstanding year for the recognition we have received from our industry,” said John Parson, CEO of Staker and Parson Companies. “Our team members show commitment everyday in delivering the best in quality, innovation and service. We are thrilled that the NSSGA has chosen our operations to be the recipient of these awards.”

The Community Relations Program began in 1989 to recognize aggregate producers whose community involvement and support activities have enhanced the public’s perception of the aggregates industry in general and the public image of the individual producer’s aggregate operation in particular. There are several different levels awards including the Pinnacle Award, Excellence in Community Relations and Community Achievement, Certificates of Achievement and the “Toast of the Town” Award.
